Visit to Ungra, Tumkur District, Karnataka

Good morning!…

I am just back from a workshop which was held at Ungra (a village in Tumkur District, Karnataka, India) which was for the construction of highly fuel efficient wood burning stoves. You may wonder, still wood burning stoves? Yes. These stoves are highly fuel efficient, cooks faster than the gas (LPG), no Indoor Air Pollution, no heat radiation and of course, no smoke also.

And these stoves can be constructed in less than half a day, which has two main pans, a heat recovery pan where you can get hot or even boiling water heated by the hot exhaust of the stove with no direct burning!!

Thanks to the Centre for Sustainable Technology (CST) which was earlier known as ASTRA under the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India, the workshop was a great success. We had Prof.SS.Lokras, the brain behind the 2+1 model, Mr.Somsekhar, Prof.Chanakya and Mr.Pramod Khadilkar from CST who conducted the workshop which was held on 2nd and 3rd of November 2011.

More on the stove soon….

Till then
